About AICS

The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) is the operative platform of the Italian cooperation system. Established in 2016, it manages international development, poverty reduction, and humanitarian aid initiatives globally. Its headquarters are in Rome, with a network of 20 field offices worldwide.

Key Details & Focus Areas

Mission: Aligned with the UN's 2030 Agenda, AICS focuses on poverty eradication, gender equality, environmental sustainability, and inclusive economic growth.

Priority Sectors: Funding is primarily directed toward agriculture and rural development, health, education, and the protection of civil rights and cultural heritage.

Local Operations: From its office in Addis Ababa, AICS oversees regional projects in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan, and South Sudan. For instance, Ethiopia is a primary partner country, with €140 million made available under the 2023–2025 framework for local development and food security initiatives.
